Biography

STEPHENSON D. EMERY is a partner in the law firm of Williams, Porter Day & Neville, P.C.  His practice focuses on civil litigation in the area of personal injury defense, medical and hospital malpractice defense, bad faith actions against insurance companies, employment law, including the defense of wrongful termination actions, and civil rights cases in state and federal courts in Wyoming. Mr. Emery also has an extensive practice representing employers in employment matters such as Title VII discrimination and ADA disputes, OSHA and DEQ enforcement actions, and workers’ compensation cases.  Mr. Emery has served as a lobbyist in the Wyoming Legislature.  Mr. Emery has handled appeals to the Wyoming Supreme Court and to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Steve served in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, United States Navy, as a prosecutor, defense counsel, and international law attorney from 1985 to 1989.  From 1989 to 1990 he was Energy and Natural Resources Legislative Assistant to United States Senator Malcolm Wallop, Washington, D.C.  Steve joined the law firm of Williams, Porter, Day & Neville, P.C. in 1990 and became a partner in 1993.  Steve is admitted to the Wyoming State Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.  He is a member of the Natrona County Bar, Defense Research Institute, and the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. Additionally, Mr. Emery was a member of the Wyoming Civil Pattern Jury Instruction Committee from 2001-2005.  Mr. Emery received his B.A. degree in Economics from Northwestern University and his J.D. degree from the University of Wyoming College of Law, where he was the Land and Water Law Review Comment Editor from 1984-1985.
