Construction claims present a myriad of complexities – and construction lawsuits are often multi-party cases with cross claims and third-party claims among numerous defendants. The economic stakes are high with damage claims potentially in the millions. Competent construction claims handling requires an understanding of the distinct legal and practical issues between commercial and residential claims.
Through the School of Construction, you will gain the tools and knowledge required to navigate these complex claims with real-world scenarios from leading industry experts who have seen it all. The curriculum, theories, case scenarios, principles, and test questions were designed to be put to use on a daily basis.
The Curriculum
This comprehensive program is comprised of three progressive levels. For detail on the courses, please view the complete learning objectives.
Level 1
Provides a solid knowledge base and everyday skills revolving around construction claims, including how constructions projects are managed, contracts and contracting relationships, various forms of coverage and coverage issues, and management of construction claims from the ground up.
This course is delivered virtually. Upon successful completion of the final exam students may advance to Level 2. Students also have the option to test out of Level 1 and begin their course of study with Level 2.
Level 2
Prerequisite: Construction Level 1 or test out option
Addresses the complex issues present in every construction claim, including advanced coverage concepts and exclusions. You will learn cost or repair estimates, covered versus uncovered damages, risk transfer mechanisms and concepts, application of various triggers of coverage nationwide, analysis and handling of additional insured issues, as well as Bad Faith and Consent Judgments in jurisdictions nationwide.
This course is taught in person. Upon successful completion of the final exam, students may advance to Level 3.
Level 3
Prerequisite: Construction Level 2
Focuses on practical application of the concepts learned during the first two levels. You will learn different analytical methods to evaluate, negotiate and settle constructions claims, plus how to reserve on coverage issues and recognize other potential coverages beyond the CGL policy. This program also provides insight into Risk Management and Underwriting principles and Reinsurance Reserving principles and how each impacts the insurance business.
This course is taught in person. Upon successful completion of the final exam, students will earn their CCP designation.
Certified Claims Professional Designation
Upon completion of all three levels, you will earn the Certified Claims Professional (CCP) designation in Construction, including a digital badge to showcase your accomplishment. Earning this designation sets up apart from your peers and signals your expertise to your manager or prospective employer.
