Dana Babbin, Attorney and Entrepreneur providing outreach and training regarding cyber safety and Internet crimes against children Oct 16 2014 1:45PM

Dana Babbin served as a state prosecutor in Massachusetts between October 1999 and March 2011. She began her career as a line ADA for Suffolk County DA's Office, where she spent most of her time in the Boston Municipal Court, the Roxbury District Court, and as a Domestic Violence Point Prosecutor. Subsequently, she taught the Prosecutor Program at Boston University Law School, where she supervised student prosecutors in District Court. Between 2003 and 2007, Dana served the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office as its Internet Crimes Against Children Prosecutor (or, “ICAC” Prosecutor), handling not only the prosecution of child pornography cases, but vast amounts of outreach and training, both locally and nationally, for state and federal organizations.

Between August 2007 and March 2011, Dana spearheaded the establishment of a first-ever cybercrime division at the Middlesex County D.A.'s Office. As the D.A.’s Coordinator of his novel Cyber Protection Program, Dana provided assistance to lawyers and police officers who were handling cyber issues within their cases, keeping a few of the more complex “cyber” cases to prosecute herself.  Along with a detective from the Mass. State Police, Dana supervised the D.A.’s Cyber Enforcement Unit, where experts analyzed the seized digital evidence.  In addition, she continued to serve the community with her outreach efforts, spending considerable time working with schools that were increasingly faced with problems stemming from the intersection of crime and technology (such as cyberbullying and “sexting”), ultimately building materials used to “divert” young persons from the criminal justice system who had been caught “sexting” at school. Finally, Dana continued to travel both statewide and nationwide as a guest speaker for government, legal, and pedagogical organizations, focusing primarily on the education of police, school personnel, and professionals who are concerned with the many facets of digital evidence and cyber safety.

Dana now runs Cadence Consulting (callcadence.com). She continues to provide outreach and training, primarily to judges, police academies, prosecutors, digital evidence examiners, digital evidence labs, and school personnel. She also designs and drafts digital evidence lab protocol. Finally, Dana also works with the National ICAC Program, drafting everything from operational policy to legal templates and case digests for the nation’s prosecutors and law enforcement officers who tirelessly fight to end child abuse and the resulting contraband.

In addition, Dana founded Pink TruckTM, a new girls’ clothing line.  Dana proudly serves on the Board of Directors of Catholic Memorial School, an all-boys middle school and high school in Boston. At home, Dana and her husband (a Massachusetts State Police detective) enjoy spending time with their three girls.
