Biography

Rick Baker is a partner with Owen, Gleaton, Egan, Jones & Sweeney, LLP, in Atlanta.  His practice focuses on the defense of manufacturers in product liability cases, tort defense and business litigation.

Defend manufacturers of a variety of products, including motor vehicles, hospital equipment, powered lawn equipment, heavy/construction equipment, food, medical device electronic components and construction materials. Served as a coordinating attorney for litigation in multiple states against a manufacturer of EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System), a construction product. Also on the trial and appellate teams for the Georgia case in which the Court of Appeals determined no independent failure to recall claim exists in the state, briefing the issue in both courts. Defend businesses in premises liability, health care, employment and construction matters. Representative business litigation includes real estate matters, franchise litigation, contract disputes, dealer and distribution litigation, fiduciary duty concerns, fraud and misrepresentation claims, and commercial code and other state and federal statutory issues. Represents top Fortune companies and international businesses, as well as Georgia-based clients and those with Georgia operations at the trial and appellate levels.  Works with self-insureds, third-party administrators and insurers. Author and speaker on legal topics affecting his clients, including at CLM's 2013 national conference and 2012 product liability seminar.

Rick has achieved a peer review rating of AV Preeminent.  He also has been named a Rising Star by the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Georgia Super Lawyers magazines, an honor limited to no more than 2.5 percent of the state's lawyers each year.While in law school, Rick was recognized by the Oklahoma Law Review with the Outstanding Note Editor Award and the Outstanding Second-Year Member Award, and he received the college's Student Bar Association Prize for service to the student body.
