Biography

Susan Grondine-Dauwer owns SEG-D Consulting and provides legal and claims advisory services to insurance and reinsurance companies including expert witness and arbitration work, evaluation of internal and external legal operations, and portfolio run-off analysis and strategy.  She has more than 25 years of claims and legal experience in the P&C industry with much of her professional focus in the run-off sector.  Prior to venturing out on her own she was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for R&Q Solutions, the US subsidiary of global reinsurance services provider, R&Q Investment Holdings, and managed the legal operations of R&Q Reinsurance Company, Transport Insurance Company, Excess & Treaty Management Corporation and Goldstreet Insurance Company.  She also held positions as Chief Claims Officer for R&Q and Transport and served on the companies' Boards of Directors.  Before that, Susan worked for The Hartford Insurance Company's discontinued operations group, Horizon Management, serving as Senior Vice President and Counsel to First State Insurance Company, New England Reinsurance Corporation, New England Insurance Company and Hart Re.  She started her career in insurance with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and worked in the Home Office Litigation Unit and then the company's original Environmental Department where she managed APH claims and coverage litigation and related reinsurance cessions.  For the past 25 years she has worked extensively in all aspects of reinsurance and run-off portfolio management, direct/assumed/ceded claims handling and dispute resolution.  Susan earned her B.S. degree from Boston College and her J.D. from Boston University School of law.  She is a frequent speaker at industry events including educational seminars.  She is a Certified Arbitrator through ARIAS*US and has been a member of that organization for almost 20 years.  She has served on the ARIAS Ethics Committee, is the co-founder of the ARIAS Women's Networking Group and currently serves on the Publication Committee.  She is an arbitrator with www.Arbitration.com  She is a member of AIIROC and the MassReBar Association and is a past member of the American Bar Association and former chair of the ABA's Corporate Counsel Young Lawyer's Division.  Outside of insurance and reinsurance, she is a active supporter of her local Boys & Girls Club.
