Biography

R. Christopher Spicer, Managing Director, Industrial Hygiene
Gallagher Bassett Technical Services

Chris Spicer  has more than thirty  years of experience in environmental consulting, primarily devoted to indoor environmental issues facing the construction, real estate and insurance communities.  He is recognized by the Board for Global EHS Credentialing as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and the Institute for Hazardous Materials Management as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). The majority of his consulting practice has been in the evaluation and remediation of facilities with suspected and/or known common environmental contaminants such as lead-containing paint, asbestos, smoke/soot fire residual, and/or microbiological (fungi and bacteria) particulates. In addition to have given more than fifty (50) presentations in numerous venues on a variety of technical issues in the field, Chris has been a member of ASTM International Committee D 22-08, Assessment, Sampling and Analysis of Microorganisms since 2005.

He has authored research  on the purpose, collection, and evaluation of environmental contaminant (i.e., fungal) data  which has been published in the American Industrial Hygiene Journal, Journal of the Air and Waste Management Association, Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, Environmental Claims Journal,  Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, Indoor and Built Environment  and Environmental Monitoring and Assessment. This has served as the foundation for defense of personal and/or or property damage claims  from exposure to environmental contaminants such as mold and post fire "soot,"  recognizing the need for environmental data to be able to withstand legal challenges under Daubert and/or Frye. Mr. Spicer holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies.
