Geoffrey Coan

Biography

Attorney Geoffrey Coan focuses his practice in products liability, drug and medical device and complex litigation.  A significant portion of his practice involves serving as national coordinating counsel to medical device and pharmaceutical companies.

A selection of Attorney Coan's representative cases includes:

Actively serving as national counsel for a generic drug manufacturer in consolidated actions pending in multiple jurisdictions arising out of the use of the drug Metoclopramide. Actively serving as national counsel for a pharmaceutical company in multi-district litigation arising out of the use of contaminated heparin. Defending a distributor of an orthopedic product in consolidated litigation arising out of the implantation of joint spacers. Actively serving as national counsel and providing risk management services for an orthopedic and spine medical device manufacturer in products liability actions across the United States involving various products. Defending a pharmaceutical company in a class action arising out of the use of prescription flea and tick powder.

Attorney Coan began his legal career in the United States Navy, Judge Advocate General's Corp.  He left active duty in 1999 and continues to serve in the Naval Reserve.  He has been with Hinshaw & Culbertson, LLP since May, 2010.  Prior to that he was a partner in the Boston office of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker, LLP.  Attorney Coan has received numerous awards and recognition throughout his career, including being named MEDMARC Attorney of the Year in 2008.

Attorney Coan is a member of the Products Liability Committee of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, where he serves as co-chair for the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Subcommittee.  He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute.
