Dr. Bassil Aish

Biography

Bassil Aish, M.D is a UCLA bred Sports Medicine Physician and Family Physician. Dr. Aish received his degree with honors from the University of California at Berkeley and completed internship, residency and sports medicine fellowship programs at UCLA. Dr. Aish served as a UCLA medical school clinical instructor and team physician for UCLA football, track and field, soccer, and swimming, leaving to work with U.S. Olympic national athletic teams and enter into practice in his hometown, Huntington Beach, California. Dr. Aish also proudly serves as team physician for Goldenwest College and Huntington Beach High School in his hometown and is a member of the faculty at the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Aish has an impressive and unique set of career accomplishments in the field of traumatic brain injury. Personally, he has evaluated and managed over 1500 concussion cases including professional athletes from many sports. Dr. Aish is widely recognized as a national expert in the fields of traumatic brain injury and sports related concussion. He is well published nationally and internationally in standardized methods of concussion assessment and has presented on traumatic brain injury to several national societies including the AMSSM, ACSM, Emergency Department Physicians and internationally on ESPN and Fox Sports.

Dr. Aish is a regular on camera and the Chief Medical Advisor for the ESPN/Fox Sports show "Sport Science" where he pioneered general public education on concussion and participated in recommendations to the NFL safeguards committee and NFL referees association to institute rule changes to minimize traumatic brain injury risk. “A work in progress” feels Dr. Aish. He is also a leader in the field of concussion prevention and management in soccer and football in youth athletics.

Dr. Aish has the rare distinction of being an Emmy Award Winning Physician in 2009 winning his Emmy for innovative sports programming on "Sport Science” which included a vivid presentation of traumatic brain injury in sports. He is also on camera and a physician advisor for the acclaimed show "Fight Science" on Discovery Channel.

Dr. Aish also serves as the medical director of the Surf City USA marathon (and kids run) for the past 10 years. He is the proud father of 2, Quincy and Mia.
