Biography

With 30 years of litigation experience, Mike has a strong track record of handling disputes for a diverse range of clients—from Fortune 500 corporations and large insurance companies to local construction contractors, design professionals and small businesses. Mike’s trial practice includes the representation of clients in commercial litigation, insurance coverage actions, and civil tort litigation in both State and Federal Courts in Georgia and South Carolina. His wide range of experience provides him with a valuable perspective which enables him to craft imaginative solutions to complex problems and achieve efficient results in contentious matters.

Mike currently holds an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell. Since 2014, he has been named as one of the Best Lawyers in America® for Insurance Law, Litigation and Construction. Mike is a Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and has served as a faculty member for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Mike is an active member of both the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the Claims Litigation Management Alliance (CLM). Mike is a CLM Litigation Management Professional and currently serves on CLM’s National Advisory Board for Construction Claims.

Mike is also very active in the State Bar of South Carolina and the American Bar Association. Mike is the founding chair of the South Carolina Bar’s Attorney Wellness Committee and speaks frequently on the issue of attorney wellness to judges and lawyers across the country. Mike was a recipient of the 2015 Leadership in Law Award by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly, the Outstanding Achievement Award From the South Carolina Bar, the American Bar Association’s Smythe Gambrell Professionalism Award and the 2017 Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’ s Community Leadership Award.

Mike is a graduate of the University of Georgia Law School (1988), Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1985), and Mississippi College (1982).
