Biography

Currently, I am working as a Risk Mangement and HR Consultant mainly for my prior company, United Skates of America.  Before leaving in August 2015, I was the Risk Manager for United Skates of America, Inc.  I oversaw 19 roller skating/family fun centers throughout the country located in 10 states.  My experience prior to USA, involved 12 years as a claims adjuster for property and casualty insurance carriers in both commercial and personal lines.  I earned a business degree (BS) from Ohio State University in Insurance and Risk Management.

It was my work on the claims side of insurance that led me to seek a job that would allow some control over the prevention side of accidents and not just dealing with the aftermath.  My philosophy at USA as Risk Manager was first and foremost to prevent accidents through:
1) detailed and thorough training of associates,
(2) maintaining safe & clean facilities and
(3) if/when accidents do occur having strict procedures to document each possible potential allegation.

An important part of USA’s risk management program involves local Safety Directors overseeing each rink and reaching out to every injured guest, anticipating potential claims, and sometimes proactively settling claims.  If it becomes necessary to involve our liability carriers, it is vital to have good partnership relationships with those carriers and the adjusters so they include our recommendations & investigation in denials and settlements.

In 2010, I was honored to receive the Edmund Young Special Recognition Award for outstanding work in roller skating risk management from IALDA and I continues to seek out knowledge and innovative tools from industry professionals, attorneys and insurance carriers to reduce incidents which reduces claims and ultimately reduce insurance costs to USA facilities and its insurance carriers.
