Biography

Michael Stevens is a shareholder in the regional law firm of Martin & Seibert, LC and focuses his practice on complex litigation, most notably the defense of insurance "bad faith" and class actions throughout West Virginia and other jurisdictions.  He has significant experience in all aspects of civil litigation and appellate practice. Additionally,  he has secured a host of favorable decisions for industry clients from State and Federal courts concerning issues such as abusive discovery, attorney-client privilege, conflicts of law and policy interpretation.  He regularly participates in seminars and training programs for insurance clients on litigation topics as well as emerging trends in "bad faith" and discovery.  Likewise, he continues to be a repeat panelist at national "bad faith" conferences.
Mr. Stevens has an extensive background in both the public and private sector, beginning his professional career as director of a community redevelopment agency in College Station, Texas.  There, he received national recognition for the design and implementation of housing and capital improvement programs leveraging federal grant monies with participation by local and regional lenders. He was employed for twelve years in sales and management for a major Washington, DC foodservice wholesaler and continued his successful industry tenure through consulting work in the development of promotional opportunities with nationally-based commodity boards.
Mr. Stevens is licensed in all West Virginia and Maryland Courts as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  He has been recognized as a West Virginia Super Lawyer for multiple years and has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers of America for his work in civil litigation and appellate advocacy.  He has earned the CLMP designation (2013) and is  a member of DRI and the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia.
