Biography
Michael Markett is Chief Legal Counsel for Liberty International Underwriters ("LIU"), joining LIU in October 2009. Mike has over fifteen years’ experience as an insurance industry lawyer, starting as a coverage litigator working for corporate law firms LeBoeuf, Lamb and Holland & Knight. Liberty Mutual Group has been a client of Michael’s for over twelve years, first as outside counsel and then as in house counsel. He made the move in house to Liberty in 2004 working in the Complex Emerging Risks Claims Group as coverage counsel. The position offered ample exposure to reinsurance issues which Michael put to good use in his next role as Reinsurance Counsel for Liberty Mutual Group. In that role he advised on all reinsurance-related issues and corporate transactions affecting the Group. As Chief Counsel for LIU, Michael provides legal support to all the underwriting groups and advises senior management and LIU corporate departments. Michael received his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and his B.A. from Connecticut College.
