Biography

Mr. Aiken is a trial lawyer in Edison, McDowell & Hetherington’s Houston office. His practice focuses on a wide range of commercial litigation matters, including property and casualty, life, health and disability insurance litigation; stranger-owned life insurance litigation; and litigation of general complex commercial disputes.  Mr. Aiken has experience litigating in state and federal courts in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Texas.  Mr. Aiken also has experience litigating matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, The United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the American Arbitration Association and in FINRA dispute resolution.

Mr. Aiken has a keen understanding that litigation is but one portion of a client's overall business portfolio, and he works with each client to develop case strategies that complement that client's overall business environment.  Whether working to resolve cases during pre-litigation negotiations or taking a case aggressively through trial and appeal, Mr. Aiken will advise clients with their overall business goals in mind.Mr. Aiken's flexibility as a litigator stems from his business background.  After graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in finance, Mr. Aiken worked at Morgan Stanley & Co. as an investment-banking analyst.  As an analyst, he focused on the energy sector; advising clients on financing, mergers, and acquisitions; and strategic-structural alternatives.Away from the office, Mr. Aiken is a Director of the University of Houston Law Alumni Association Board and enjoys spending time with his family, volunteering with the Houston Area Special Olympics, and pursuing backpacking and photography.  Additionally, Mr. Aiken is an avid supporter of The University of Texas where he was a captain of the swimming team.
