Sarah Schmitz

Biography

Sarah R. Schmitz is the VP - Chief Claims Officer at Berkley Risk Administrators in Minneapolis, MN. Berkley Risk provides at-risk and alternative risk insurance program management services to a broad range of groups and individuals including captives, pools, associations, RRGs and self-insured clients. As a TPA it manages workers’ compensation, liability and property claims nationwide. The risk program focuses on mono-line Worker's Compensation line of business. Berkley Risk is a member of W. R. Berkley Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and one of the nation’s premier commercial lines property casualty insurance providers.

Schmitz spent 16 years at OneBeacon Insurance (now Intact Insurance) as a Sr. Claim Manager over the Public Entity and Non-Trucking Liability lines at its headquarters in Plymouth, Minnesota. In addition, Schmitz has extensive experience in a wide range of claims including legal malpractice, real estate errors and omissions, employment, auto, general liability, trucking, excess/umbrella and directors and officer’s claims.   
 
Prior to OneBeacon, Schmitz practiced at Minneapolis-based Meagher & Geer, LLP, where she focused her practice on insurance coverage and real estate defense. Schmitz also served two terms on the Minnetonka Planning Commission. 
 
Schmitz graduated cum laude from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. Schmitz served as an editor of the Hamline Law Review and published Preventing Mudslinging in Chambers: Alternatives After the Demise of the Announce Clause in Republican Party of Minnesota v. White.
