Biography

Thomas Newcomb Hyde is a 1967 graduate of the Seminary of St. Vincent De Paul in Boynton Beach, Florida. He received his Master of Education from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1969. He was a teacher on the elementary and secondary level for four years. He also taught at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.

In 1974, Mr. Hyde received his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, where he completed an internship as a prosecutor in the Miami Dade County State Attorneys office. He joined Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in 1975 and began working as a trial attorney at the Miami legal office. After ten years of trying lawsuits in Miami, he was named Resident Attorney opening up a new legal office in Tampa in 1986. He became the Director of Training for the Legal Department for Liberty Mutual, as well as Division General Attorney for the Southern Region in 1992.

Since 1985, Mr. Hyde has been responsible for the design, development and implementation of Liberty Mutual’s Attorney Development Program. Through this program, Mr. Hyde has presented training conferences and seminars in trial advocacy, expert witness testimony, deposition and discovery, workers compensation advocacy, attorney management, attorney anti-fraud advocacy, subrogation, marketing legal services, negotiations and mediation, bad faith law, attorney leadership, and legal ethics to lawyers throughout the United States.

Mr. Hyde has served as an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, the Better Business Bureau, and the Florida Attorney General’s Office. He was appointed National Director of Legal Training for Liberty Mutual in 1999. He has served on the Ethics Committee of the Legal Department since 2003.
