Biography

Andrew Blum, a Managing Engineer employed by Exponent, Inc., is a registered fire protection engineer (PE) and is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI).  He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland.   Mr. Blum has investigated numerous fires and fire protection system failures in residential homes and commercial kitchens, as well as larger losses in a variety of storage, manufacturing, food processing, power generation, high-rise hotel, apartment, condominium, and commercial facilities.  He has guest lectured on the principals of fire protection engineering systems and failures of fire protection engineering systems at the University of Maryland.  Mr. Blum has presented on fire protection engineering topics at past National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) conferences.  Mr. Blum has also authored papers on fire protection engineering topics for the SFPE magazine and NASP’s Subrogator magazine, many involving fire sprinkler systems.  He is a member of the ICC, SFPE and NFPA and sits on a number of fire protection engineering technical committees for the ICC, NFPA and ASTM.
