Melanie Brown

Biography

Melanie M. Brown is Head of US Claims at Canopius Group and an experienced claims executive with a background leading complex professional liability, specialty, and casualty claims organizations. She has extensive experience directing strategy on complex, high-exposure claims, developing claims teams and infrastructure, implementing claims protocols and best practices, and building strong partnerships across claims, underwriting, and other key business functions.

Prior to joining Canopius Group, Melanie served as Head of Complex and Specialty Claims at Munich Re Specialty Insurance, where she led a multidisciplinary team of senior attorneys and insurance professionals across five offices nationwide and was a member of the Claims Leadership Team. Her previous leadership roles with Markel included Director of Professional Liability Claims, Director of Construction/Design Professional Claims, and Manager of Professional Liability. Earlier in her career, she served as an Executive Claims Attorney and Senior Claims Attorney with Markel and practiced as a litigation attorney with Sedgwick LLP, handling products liability, toxic tort, medical malpractice, commercial disputes, and insurance coverage matters.

Melanie earned her Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Virginia.
