Biography
Bruce Astrachan is Senior Counsel, Claims, for Retail Business Services, the services company of Ahold Delhaize USA. Serving a portfolio of local grocery brands including Stop & Shop, Food Lion, GIANT/MARTIN’S, Hannaford, Giant Food and Peapod, which collectively span 23 U.S. states, operate more than 2,000 stores and have some of the most extensive supply chain operations on the East Coast, Retail Business Services leverages scale to drive synergies and provides innovative solutions, as well as industry-leading expertise, insights and analytics to local brands to support their strategies. Astrachan provides legal advice and guidance to the claims department of Retail Business Services and works with claims leadership to establish a focused legal strategy. He is also responsible for monitoring changes in the law affecting claims in states where Ahold Delhaize USA’s local brands operate, and training claims staff on legal issues that affect the handling of claims.
Prior to joining Retail Business Services, Astrachan was Manager, General Liability, for Ahold USA, a position he held since 2010. Before joining Ahold USA, Astrachan spent 11 years at MAC Risk Management, where he held several positions including Senior Claims Analyst and Senior Claims Examiner. He began his career as an attorney, practicing in both the public and private sectors in Rhode Island.
An advocate for community and associate engagement, Astrachan is a leader within the legal department’s engagement committee, organizing educational, career development and social opportunities. He also volunteers with Retail Business Services Cares, the company’s community engagement platform, dedicated to providing hunger relief and strengthening communities. Astrachan holds a B.A. in political science from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and a J.D. from Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Mass. He and his family reside in Enola, Penn.
