Biography

Monica co-founded LCW in 2000 with Randall Stieghorst with a mission of inspiring professionals to connect across cultures. As LCW's master consultant and chief engagement leader for clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to world class universities and the U.S. Peace Corps, Monica helps them achieve cultural transformations, develop cultural competence, interrupt unconscious bias, engage global talent, and better connect to the local contexts in all the locations where they operate. Monica's passion for cross-cultural work was awakened in the late 1990s while living in Eastern Europe as a Peace Corps Volunteer. With a master’s in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, Monica served as an international development consultant for engineering and infrastructure projects with multinational teams from the Baltic states, Spain, Germany, Romania, Hungary, Sweden and Denmark. She also worked in partnership on several ventures proposed for European Union funding and cooperated closely with entrepreneurs, business leaders, technical experts, community organizers and Ministry officials. A handbook she co-authored for developing non-profit agencies in the former Soviet Union has been translated into three languages. Monica has also served for a decade on the U.S. Peace Corps’ staging team with responsibility over pre-departure programs for Americans departing on two-year international development assignments. Monica was a founding member on the Advisory Council for the Center for International Business Education and Research at the University of Illinois. She was also a board member for five years to the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research.
