Biography

Rhonda Tobin is co-chair of Robinson & Cole's Litigation Section and serves on the firm's Managing Committee. For almost three decades she has representing insurers in coverage and extracontractual liability matters, including first and third-party property-casualty issues as well as professional liability, directors and officers liability, excess liability and reinsurance.  Rhonda's insurance coverage practice includes the arbitration and litigation of a broad range of coverage issues under commercial, professional, directors and officers, and miscellaneous errors and omissions policies, including claims for insurance bad faith or extracontractual liability. Her insurance coverage practice also includes substantial experience in property claims-related litigation, including high-profile insurance coverage litigation arising out of the September 11 catastrophe.  Rhonda's reinsurance experience includes the arbitration and litigation of reinsurance disputes related to property and casualty and workers' compensation reinsurance.

Rhonda has significant trial experience representing insurers in coverage and bad faith matters in both state and federal courts.  She has been retained on the eve of trial to take over the defense of bad faith cases previously handled by other law firms.  She frequently consults with her clients on open claims to ensure good faith investigations and claim settlement practices and to avoid exposure to extracontractual liability.  Rhonda regularly provides training to her clients on good faith claim handling and various coverage issues.

In recognition of her experience in the field of insurance coverage and extracontractual liability, Rhonda was elected a Fellow in the American College of Coverage Counsel (ACCC).
