Biography

Vance Knapp, a Denver Partner within AT’s Employment and Labor practice area, has over 20 years of experience representing a variety of employers, including those in the public sector. As such, Vance has extensive experience defending employers in single plaintiff and class actions alleging violations of state and federal law, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, CADA and claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1981. Vance has successfully tried cases in state and federal court. In 2016, he successfully tried an ADEA wrongful termination lawsuit involving a commercial airline pilot terminated for poor performance. He obtained a defense verdict after a five day jury trial in U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Deneffe v. SkyWest Airlines, Inc., U.S. District Court, District of Colorado, Civil Action No. 14-cv-00348-MEH. 

Vance was also a former Assistant City Attorney assigned to the Prosecution and Code Enforcement Unit. As a former prosecutor, he has tried over 300 cases, 30 of which were jury trials. During his time as an Assistant City Attorney, Vance developed a good rapport with members of the Denver City Council, command personnel in the Denver Police and Fire Departments and a thorough understanding of municipal operations. 

Vance has also been very active in the Denver legal community. Previously, he was president of the Sam Cary Bar Association, member of the Denver Bar Association Board of Trustees; and the University of Colorado Law Alumni Board.
