Biography

Mr. Carlson has an extensive background in products liability litigation. He has successfully handled cases involving the following product lines: all-terrain vehicles, farm tractors, handguns, power tools, automobiles, car seats, textile machines, underground mining equipment, forklifts, tractor trailers, induction furnaces, latex gloves, industrial woodworking machinery, conveyers, kerosene heaters, tires, extruder machines, boats, steering cables, medical devices, pharmaceutical products, household appliances, cranes, industrial equipment, motorcycles, lawn mowers, power regulators/transformers, earth moving equipment, and electronic components. In addition, Mr. Carlson is designated counsel for various insurance companies.  He has extensive experience preparing witnesses through interpreters in both Japanese and German for both depositions and trial. He has tried numerous cases through interpreters. He has also represented product manufacturers located in Scotland, Germany, Japan, Austria, France, Italy, South Korea and England.

 Mr. Carlson has briefed and argued cases before the Alabama Supreme Court and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

 Mr. Carlson is consistently recognized by his peers in the legal industry, and especially in the area of products liability. Most recently, Mr. Carlson was listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Products Liability Litigation and Commercial Litigation and in Alabama Super Lawyers 2010 for Personal Injury Defense – Products. Mr. Carlson is an active member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the International Association of Defense Counsel.

 Prior to a career in law, Mr. Carlson had extensive experience managing livestock operations, the operation of over-the-road tractor trailer rigs and farm and underground mining equipment.

 Mr. Carlson’s community activities include membership on the Session of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Executive Board for a private K-12 school, Chairman of the Legal and Financial Committee for this same school and teaching Sunday School at Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
