Biography

Larry Lum is a partner based in the firm's New York City office. He is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and co-chairs the firm’s General Liability & Casualty Practice Group. Throughout the past twenty-four (24) years, he has practiced in all areas of insurance defense litigation with an emphasis on general liability (including sports related risks), premises liability (including security, Labor Law and construction cases), automobile and transportation liability, products liability and employer’s liability. He specializes in defending national owners and operators of commercial properties, shopping complexes, malls/plazas and major retail chain stores. He has taken dozens of jury verdicts in premises liability cases throughout the state and federal courts of the State of New York, including many involving catastrophic injury claims (e.g., wrongful death, quadriplegia/paraplegia, complex neurological injuries such as reflex sympathetic dystrophy and compartment syndrome, disfigurement and burn injuries, amputation, and significant disability cases). Mr. Lum represents Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, and National Hockey League, their member teams, and their affiliated arenas and stadiums in various general liability matters throughout the country. He has established seminal case law in New York regarding spectators' assumption of risk for injuries sustained at professional hockey games. He has represented many of the sports leagues, franchises and arenas for the past two decades. He has represented international restaurant chains, major franchise operators and bars in connection with national restaurant liability programs, encompassing claims ranging from food poisoning to Dram Shop issues. He has also represented product manufacturers of bank safes/automatic teller machines, refuse trucks/compactors, hydraulic lift gates, elevators/escalators, cheese/vegetable slicing machines, and industrial chemicals/enzymes.
