Biography
Cristi L. Nelson is a founding partner with Ripes Nelson Baggot & Kalobratsos, PC., located in Chicago and Itasca, Illinois. With 27+ years of legal experience, Cristi concentrates her practice in the defense of Workers' Compensation matters, with focus on the mitigation of complex cases including asbestos related exposures, heart attack cases, cases that involve psychological distress and catastrophic/death cases.
Ms. Nelson is admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court and in the United States District Court in Illinois. As a skilled litigator, Cristi has extensive trial experience before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. She has also argued aggressively in defense of her clients in the Circuit and Appellate Courts of Illinois.
Cristi’s professional affiliations include the Illinois State Bar Association and Workers' Compensation Lawyer’s Association where she held a Board of Directors position for several years. Ms. Nelson has also been acknowledged as a “Super Lawyer” in Chicago and named to the list of “10 Best Workers’ Compensation Attorneys - Illinois” by the American Institute of Legal Counsel, for her exceptional and outstanding client service.
Ms. Nelson frequently speaks with Claims professionals, encouraging “business smart” claims handling and suggestions for fine tuning investigation skills for mitigation of exposure in workers' compensation cases. She has presented on several occasions to an audience of her peers on topics relating to WC Law in IL through the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE)
Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Ms. Nelson received her Bachelor of Arts degree with concentration in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed her Juris Doctorate at John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Illinois.
In her free time, Cris enjoys traveling and attending Badger Football and Chicago Blackhawks games.
