Biography

 Katonga is licensed in both Georgia and Florida.  She attended Emory University, Atlanta, GA (BS-Chemistry, May 1999).  Before practicing law, Katonga worked as a forensic toxicologist and expert witness with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory.  She attended Georgia State University College of Law (JD, May 2007), and was the Vice-President of the Student Trial Lawyers Association Mock Trial Team; Vice-President, Black Law Students Association; 2007 Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition Team- Regional Winner, National Runner-up; 2006 Bioethics Mock Trial Competition Team- First Place; and a 2006 Gate City Bar Association Scholarship Recipient.  From 2006-2007, Katonga interned with United States Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia.  Katonga is a Travelers Insurance Staff Counsel Attorney with the office of Shivers & Associates, Alpharetta, GA. She practices insurance defense litigation with a concentration in personal and business liability.  She also serves as co-chairperson of the Travelers Staff Counsel Summer Associate Program, Southeast Regional Recruiting Coordinator for the Staff Counsel Diversity Committee, and serves on the Alpharetta Claim Service Center Diversity Executive Board.  Recently, Katonga was elected to the 2010 executive board of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, and serves as vice-president of the Columbus, GA affiliate.
