Biography
Stephen Truono was the Vice President, Global Risk Management & Insurance for 11+ years at Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Worldwide, Inc. based in Stamford, Connecticut until the acquisition by Marriott International Inc. in 3Q2016. His responsibilities included leading a team of professionals in managing the Company’s worldwide risk management initiatives including: 1) identification, analysis and evaluation of risks to which the Company may be exposed; 2) design and implementation of programs to fund/finance/transfer these risks, including placement and management of Company’s global insurance programs, and 3) collaborating with Global Safety & Security team to mitigate and control identified risks through the development and implementation of environmental, health & safety, fire prevention, life safety, security, crisis planning and claim management programs. Prior to Starwood, Mr. Truono was the Exec. Director, Global Risk Management at Avon Products, Inc. for 13+ years focusing on risk management issues relating to consumer products and brands with global manufacturing, distribution and sales operations. He previously worked for JWP International, Marsh & Mclennan, andnd Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
Mr. Truono has a BS degree in Physical Sciences from St. John’s University. He is a Certified Safety Professional by examination through Board of Certified Safety Professionals and has his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) with honors through Insurance Institute of America. His has served on several insurance company Client Advisory Boards, is an active member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association Risk Management Committee, Metropolitan NY Risk Manager Roundtable, and a member of RIMS. He is a Past President of the New York Metropolitan Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, and is currently active in various risk management and trade organizations. Mr Truono is also a member of the CLM Advisory Board.
