Biography

Prior to joining Bernard Cassisa Elliott and Davis in 1985, Mr. Kaplan clerked for Justice Fred Blanche on the Louisiana Supreme Court.  Since joining the firm, Mr. Kaplan has handled all aspects of civil litigation including products liablity, insurance defense and has specialized in appellate practice.  Over his years with the firm, he has handled major products liablity cases for manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford and Henny Penny.  During Katrina ligitation, he oversaw all aspects of both trial and appellate practice for Lafayette Insurance Company. .  He was the lead attorney in the landmark case of Sher v. Lafayette Insurance Company which ultimately determined for all insurers writing policies in Louisiana that flood was not covered under homeowner's policies.
