Biography

Matthew Hurd comes to Baker & Castro, LLC from the City of Chicago where he spent

the last 11 years first has head of the Torts Division and the last 4 years heading the

Special Litigation Unit. While at the City, he was responsible for the supervision of 33

trial attorneys at a staff of twenty. He handled some of the highest profile cases,

including a police pursuit that lead to the death of a mother of two, three garbage truck

vs. pedestrian accidents, asthma death cases involving paramedics, failure to provide

medical care, numerous other police pursuits, and countless other police misconduct and

premises cases. Prior to that he was a partner at Wildman, Harrold, Allen and Dixon

where he had an intensive case load in commercial litigation and medical malpractice. He

went to law school at the University of Notre Dame where he graduated with honors in

1985. He is a 1980 graduate of Illinois State University.

With over thirty trial victories to his credit, he has tried cases in Texas, Kansas, Ohio,

New York and Chicago. He has represented municipalities and police officers in police

misconduct and civil right cases, doctors and hospitals in medical malpractice cases,

businesses and individuals in contract and commercial disputes and business in workers

compensation and employment matters.

He has been an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, Chicago Bar

Association, Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the Law Bulletin and

Northwestern University Law School. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar

Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Federal Trial Bar.
