Biography

In his role as Senior Executive Counsel, Mr. Hill has presided over GE’s successful strategies in a number of the Company’s most complex litigations in the areas of toxic tort, the environment and insurance. He was played a leading role in designing GE’s strategy in the Breast Implant Litigation, a precedent-setting win in the U.S. Supreme Court (Joiner v. GE), and one of the largest environmental insurance recoveries on record. He has managed GE’s toxic tort/mass tort litigations including, In re Paoli; Church, et al. v. GE; the Lockheed Skunkworks litigation, its asbestos and welding rod litigations, Newman v. Stringfellow, et al., and the Nuclear Waste litigation at Hanford, WA and Paducah, KY.

Most recently he was involved in the Companies defense of medical monitoring claims brought by German military personnel, dismissed on motion; and NRD claims brought by the State of New Mexico which where the Company was granted summary judgment after a pretrial process that lasted several weeks. He has represented the Company in litigation in the United States, Canada, throughout the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Taiwan Mr. Hill he is involved in proactive legislative reform, internal Health and Safety policy, and provides counsel to GE regarding general environmental liability and risk issues.

Mr. Hill is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, American Bar Association, International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense and Research Institute, the Product Liability Advisory Counsel, as well as a member of several State and National committees.

He is on the Steering Committee of the Civil Justice Reform Group, a public policy group supporting common sense tort reform at the state level. He serves on the Board of Lawyers for Civil Justice.

He served as Co-chair of the ABA committee on Litigation Management, and was Editor of the ABA report on Litigation Management: "Radical Solutions to Litigation Management". He is on the Advisory Board of the Class Action Litigation Report and a committee member of the CPR Institute for Conflict Resolution. He was on the Advisory Board for the RAND Institute’s Monogram on the impact of Daubert in the Federal Court System and the Federal Judicial Centers Desk-book on Expert Evidence. He is a frequent lecturer on litigation management, trial strategies, and product liability law.

He is a graduate of the Michigan State University Law School, (J.D., cum laude, 1983) and Wayne StateUniversity (B.S., 1979).
