Biography

Valerie T. Matherne, Attorney, Courington, Kiefer & Sommers, L. L. C. will speak at the CLM Annual Conference, which will be held at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, April 6-8.   Her session is titled, “Premises Liability - Is the Reptile Real?”  
 
Valerie Theng Matherne is a Member with Courington, Kiefer & Sommers, LLC in New Orleans, Louisiana and Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Ms. Matherne is a current member in good standing of the Louisiana and Mississippi Bar Associations. She was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1998 and Mississippi Bar in 2002. She is admitted to practice before all federal and state courts in Louisiana and Mississippi, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Ms. Matherne has concentrated her practice in the realm of civil defense litigation, including automobile, product liability, environmental, toxic tort, bad faith, insurance coverage, premises liability, construction, and employment law.
 
Ms. Matherne was recognized as a "Mover and Shaker" in Diversity & the Bar, a publication of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA). Additionally, Ms. Matherne has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer recognition rating for professional excellence. She is co-chair of the Restaurant, Retail & Hospitality Committee for the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF). She was a member of the NAMWOLF's Diversity Initiative Award Committee for 2014 and 2015.  She, along with counsel for BP, were the co-chairs of the 2016 NAMWOLF's Business Meeting in New Orleans.  
 
Ms. Matherne is an active member of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, including its Insurance, Restaurant, Retail & Hospitality, and Construction Committees.
 
She formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel.
