Join the CLM San Diego Chapter for an educational & networking event. The seminars will analyze the example of race in jury selection. Specifically, how even seemingly race-neutral justifications for striking jurors may reflect subconscious biases and have a disproportionate impact on certain protected groups. We will also discuss that just like race-based peremptory challenges injure the community and undermine public confidence in the fairness of our justice system, the subconscious biases of legal and claims professionals. And, if not acknowledged, do present a significant hurdle to ethical claims handling. Specifically, underlying biases can impact decisions regarding policies, available coverage, claims handling, and litigation strategy.
