Mr. Brown is an executive vice president and the chief claims officer with responsibility for Sedgwick’s total quality initiative, Performance 360®, as well as innovation. Darrell is based in our Long Beach, California, office.
Darrell has more than 20 years of experience in claims management. He joined Sedgwick in 2001 as an assistant claims manager. He subsequently worked as an operations manager and also as an area manager for the southern California region. Most recently, Darrell spent over five years as the workers’ compensation practice lead for Sedgwick. Before joining Sedgwick, Darrell worked as a claims manager for a third-party administrator specializing in public entities.
Darrell has been an instructor for the American Insurance Educational Association, teaching workers’ compensation advanced and workers’ compensation case law and labor code.
Darrell holds a self-insurance license in California. He has also earned the associate of risk management designation (ARM) through the AICPCU. Darrell received a bachelor’s degree in finance from California State University at Northridge.

Investigation of Property Claims
The purpose of the Investigation Course is to introduce the audience to the life cycle of a property claim, both personal property claims and commercial property claims. Special focus is given to the importance of new loss taking within a claims organization. Further emphasis is given to the triage process, as well as the discipline of contents adjusting and management of additional living expenses. The course then proceeds to introduce the student to the role of cause and origin experts, special investigation experts and finally to the discipline and importance of subrogation and recovery.

This course has been designed for the Beginner to Early Intermediate Level Property adjuster or an experienced adjusters handling other insurance lines looking to make a transition into property claims adjusting. The student attending this course should expect to leave with a broad knowledge of Property Loss Value definitions and determinations, a basic outline of Property Claims Inspection Workflow Models, an understanding of personal lines policy provisions, conditions and limitations and basic Co-Insurance calculations as they apply to handling home owners type policies.
Resolving Property Claims: Fulfilling the Commitment
Settling first party property claims with premium paying insureds who have suffered a loss to their personal property or their business can be routine or challenging. A claim is a customer’s moment of need, an opportunity for insurers to validate years of premium payments which can be crucial to retention and profitability. This course is designed to provide some tools to assist claim handlers in resolving claims promptly and fairly based on the terms and conditions in the insured’s policy.
