Environmental and Toxic Tort - Contamination Examination: Groundwater and Soil Contamination Claims
Though we all have a general understanding that groundwater and soil contamination is bad, unless you are environmental expert, you could probably stand to learn more about the subject, especially how it relates to the insurance industry and environmental emergency claims.Panelists will discuss the general types of contamination and their related issues, highlight the unique issues related to statutory and regulatory concerns and possible issues related to policy language, explore the environmental impact of contaminates and the migration of contaminates with various types of soil and subsurface, present remediation methods, and review legal issues arising from soil and groundwater contamination.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) left to run unchecked can represent major and even existential risks to insureds and Internet of Things (IoT) devices can wreak havoc and create unexpected liability exposures. Claims professionals can expect to see claims ranging from property damage and business interruption due to threat actors taking down the grid, to discrimination claims stemming from software developer’s own unchecked biases being baked into AI programs, to wrongful death and catastrophic injury claims. Looking at recent real-world examples, our expert panelists will discuss the emerging risks associated with AI and IoT gone rogue and how to best prepare to handle these claims.

Join us in this interactive workshop where you can explore and test your knowledge firsthand on hail damage, mechanical damage, and blisters on asphalt roofing shingles. Some of the results might surprise you. To help boost your skills, we also will have samples of asphalt shingles that have undergone a desaturation test so that you can observe and feel the mat fractures and related damage. We will take a deeper dive into what a desaturation test can and cannot tell us and discuss the legal and claims aspects of when testing could be beneficial.
