Mr. Brown is an executive vice president and the chief claims officer with responsibility for Sedgwick’s total quality initiative, Performance 360®, as well as innovation. Darrell is based in our Long Beach, California, office.
Darrell has more than 20 years of experience in claims management. He joined Sedgwick in 2001 as an assistant claims manager. He subsequently worked as an operations manager and also as an area manager for the southern California region. Most recently, Darrell spent over five years as the workers’ compensation practice lead for Sedgwick. Before joining Sedgwick, Darrell worked as a claims manager for a third-party administrator specializing in public entities.
Darrell has been an instructor for the American Insurance Educational Association, teaching workers’ compensation advanced and workers’ compensation case law and labor code.
Darrell holds a self-insurance license in California. He has also earned the associate of risk management designation (ARM) through the AICPCU. Darrell received a bachelor’s degree in finance from California State University at Northridge.

e-Discovery costs continue to rise and to increase the cost of litigation. Effective claim handling in professional lines requires claims handlers to understand the e-Discovery process and understand their role in controlling those costs.

There are many different situations which the Insured is entitled to Independent Counsel. Knowing what Independent Counsel is – and is not – and what conflicts of interest give rise to Independent Counsel is crucial to the foundation of a strong professional liability claim professional. Building on that foundation is the importance of knowing how to work with Independent Counsel, and what you can and cannot do while providing a defense to the Insured.
SHARED COURSE - Navigating Relationship for Success
The students will be presented a claim scenario. Students will be assigned roles and ask questions of the claims examiner. The claims examiner will be required to respond, make recommendations and identify strategies for navigating these relationships keeping in mind the goal of claim resolution and career success.

This course is designed to be an overview of the major functions of management. Emphasis is on planning, organizing, controlling, directing, and communicating. Upon completion, students should be able to work as contributing members of a team utilizing these functions of management.
