Pillars of Support

The CLM Foundation continues its mission to support causes important to the industry.

CLM was founded on a simple mission: to help educate and inform claims and litigation professionals on the many facets of professional life that affect their jobs, and to encourage collaboration to solve our most pressing issues. But that mission has never been exclusive, which is evidenced by our latest endeavor: the CLM Foundation.

The CLM Foundation grew out of our ClaimVets program, which was founded by the CLM in 2013 to help military veterans find careers in insurance claims. While successful, I felt we could go even bigger. Hence, the CLM Foundation’s mission is to raise funds and support initiatives that promote the insurance, risk, and claims industry; attract new talent to the industry; and contribute to causes important to the industry. This year, we’re focusing on three organizations:

•Darkness to Light, an organization committed to empowering adults to prevent child sexual abuse, has trained more than 1.3 million adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

•Kids’ Chance, which supports programs that provide educational opportunities and scholarships for the children of workers seriously injured or killed on the job.

•Honor Foundation, which was created exclusively for Navy SEALs and the U.S. Special Operations community to provide a clear process for professional development.

Chairing the CLM Foundation’s board is Bob Bowman, director of risk management at the Wendy’s Company, and Deborah Saunders, director, claims management, for Comcast NBCUniversal. Rounding out the rest of the board are the following all-stars:

•Darrell Brown, chief claims officer, Sedgwick.

•Cory Feinberg, associate general counsel-head of global litigation and investigation, MoneyGram International.

•Vic Marmo, senior director, global claims, Marriott International.

•Stephen Johnson, senior vice president, claims, Assurant.

•Emilee Scialpi, assistant vice president, claims experience, USAA.

•Steve Truono, vice president, global risk management and insurance, Avon.

Join us on October 4 in New York City for the CLM Foundation’s luncheon and awards program to help raise funds for this year’s initiatives. I’m proud to see the mission of ClaimVets expand to include more great causes, and I hope you’ll join us in supporting it in the months and years to come.
