Great Insurance Jobs’ Cofounder Roger Lear is here to help you overcome obstacles to your career and job search. This month, he offers insights on how artificial intelligence tools can help you land your next big job.

Q: Can artificial intelligence tools like Bard and ChatGPT help me get a better insurance job?

A: The wild west of artificial intelligence has taken giant leaps in the last few months with the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. These tools are considered large language models (LLM) that take tons of information and, in seconds, can decipher and translate into usable, human-like answers for virtually any question.

These “robots” are game changers, and we are finding many ways they can assist you in your job search. You can access ChatGPT by creating an account on openai.com. Bard is brand new, and you need to get in the queue by going to bard.google.com.

There are differences in the way each program works. ChatGPT processes massive datasets up to the year 2021, while Bard uses real-world information from Google searches in real-time. I prefer Bard because it gives you up-to-date information, especially about new insurance jobs and alternate ways to get hired. With that said, here are some ways AI can help your job search.

Searching for insurance claims openings. If you type, “Find me 10 liability claims adjuster jobs in New York City,” in Bard, it will give you that list in three seconds. ChatGPT cannot produce current jobs since it does not produce real-time responses. The list of jobs is a great place to start a job search. Once identified, you must still apply via a job board or company website.

Creating your resume. AI can help you create a resume and cover letter to attract potential employers. ChatGPT and Bard have a resume builder that can help you correctly format your resume. One of the most powerful ways to use this technology is to take your current resume and the job you are applying to and prompt ChatGPT or Bard to rewrite your resume for that job posting. The result before you clean it up a bit is powerful. This is the first time I have seen something like this in my 20+ years of writing resumes. It will definitely help you in your job search.

Creating your cover letter. Employers only read a cover letter if the resume is good. Your resume will be great. Upload the job description and your resume to Bard or ChatGPT, add any hiring name and company, and both will provide you with a spot-on cover letter. You can ask Bard or ChatGPT to write five cover letters and pick the best one. Very powerful.

AI will prepare you for the interview. Try this prompt with either Bard or ChatGPT: “You are a career coach. I am a worker’s compensation claims adjuster. In the interview, if I am asked what my greatest weakness is, how should I answer?” You will get some wonderful ideas. More importantly, both Bard and ChatGPT can do mock interviews with you.

Interview follow up. Bard and ChatGPT can help you after interviews by sending thank-you letters. Both have templates that can help you write a professional note that centers around the actual job.

AI will be an excellent job search tool and will only improve. Have some fun with these new tools, and good luck.
