Jade Letlow
Senior Claims Examiner, Berkley Environmental
As a champion of several initiatives throughout her career so far, Jade Letlow understands that, “Whether you’ve had three years or 30 years of experience, there’s always more to learn.” She achieved her first management position at age 25 in GEICO’s Management Development Program (MDP). “I had people working for me who had worked in insurance longer than I had been alive,” she recalls.
Jade was later hired at Berkley Environmental as a supervisor leading the moderate severity auto claims team. In this role, she was a “fraud champion,” prior to the creation of the organization’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU), which entailed “raising awareness and coordinating training for the claims departments [and] being in contact with NICB regarding our referrals.” She also helped drive results within her department by advocating for increased utilization of the company’s texting platform, “Hi Marley.” Most significantly, Jade says she began with a team of four and, due to company growth, she ended up with a team of 12 and seven direct reports, including a supervisor who had five direct reports of his own.
Jade also inspires through her willingness to take a risk in pursuit of her goals. Last year, she wanted to broaden her skill set by learning how to handle general liability claims, and she left a management role within the organization to do so. “I feel like it will open more opportunities for me,” she says.
Giving back to the community is important to Jade, especially when it comes to children. She says, “I’m the secretary for the CLM New York City chapter, and we do an annual event, Dancing While Cancering, where we make activity kits with Play Doh and coloring books and assorted activities for kids who are in the hospital with cancer.” She has also volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters; New York Cares; and as an SAT tutor for underprivileged kids.
