Finding Support: ClaimVets

With all that is happening here and overseas, it's a great time to support the efforts of ClaimVets

If you’re paying attention to the news these days, you know that “ISIS” isn’t referring to the goddess of ancient Egypt. Whether or not we are at war is still a political debate at press time, but it’s a fact that a U.S.-led coalition is conducting airstrikes in Syria and Iraq. So semantics aside, it seems we’re on the cusp of more servicemen earning war veteran status.

These recent combat actions reminded me to check back in with Laura Cornish at ClaimVets to get an update on their progress. You’ll recall that ClaimVets is a CLM-affiliated, nonprofit organization that provides pathways for veterans to enter the claims profession. It underwrites the costs to recruit and train veterans, and it helps them procure adjuster licenses among other things.

Cornish told me that in the few short months since its inaugural event, ClaimVets participated in the Clinton Global Initiative’s CGI America conference, where it committed to helping train and find claims jobs for 150 veterans over the next year. It also established partnerships with CLM member companies to develop an industry-leading P&C adjuster training program.

But ClaimVets isn’t resting on its laurels until then. It’s already recruiting veterans to fill entry-level claims positions for several carriers and TPAs, and CLM’s Western North Carolina Chapter is hosting an educational event for veterans seeking careers in claims on Nov. 6, 2014.

Look for more news in the print issue of Claims Management and on the CLM website in the coming months. It’s a program we should all help support, especially in times like these.
