Great Insurance Jobs’ Cofounder Roger Lear is here to help you overcome obstacles to your career and job search. This month, he picks back up where he left off in April 2023 with additional insights on how artificial intelligence tools can help you land your next big job.

Q: Can you give me more examples on how we can use AI tools and LinkedIn to help my insurance job search?

My previous article in the April 2023 issue of CLM Magazine explored the power of AI tools like Bard and ChatGPT and how they are revolutionizing the job search process for insurance professionals. These tools can transform how candidates navigate the industry and secure their dream jobs. In this column, I dive deeper into how you can maximize generative AI tools to enhance your chances of landing that coveted insurance position.

For the last couple of months of using ChatGPT and Bard, the top thing that has stood out is how a claims adjuster, underwriter, actuary, or any insurance professional at any level can quickly take an average resume and make it stellar. Just tell ChatGPT to be an “insurance industry resume writer expert” and ask it to rewrite your resume for any job that you are applying to. For many DYI resume writers, this is all you need to make your resume optimized and much more attractive to the robots and talent acquisition humans.

Here are a few more ways AI tools can immediately take your LinkedIn profile from obscurity and make it world-class.

Super-Size Your LinkedIn “About Me” Profile. Start with the About section on your profile. This should be loaded with keywords and accomplishments.

What is hard for most is condensing this into two or three paragraphs that anyone could read and get excited about your background. To do this, go to ChatGPT and ask it to write a two-paragraph professional summary for you using your resume as a guide. Tell it to make sure to include any keywords that employers will use when searching LinkedIn profiles. This is very powerful.

Fire-Up Your LinkedIn Headline. If you are a commercial property claims adjuster, your headline may say “Claims Adjuster.” Go to ChatGPT and tell it to rewrite your LinkedIn profile headline in 200 characters. Add your resume, hit enter, and sit back and watch. Before, the headline was “Claims Adjuster,” and now it is “Property Claims Adjuster | Commercial & Litigation Expert | Specializing in Large & Complex Claims | Delivering Excellence.”

Update your LinkedIn Job Duties. Ask ChatGPT to rewrite what you specifically do at each job. Also, include what you currently have on your LinkedIn profile for each position separately and what you have on your resume. Also, ask ChatGPT to make 4-6 bullet points.

Again, you will see your profile come to life. It may require some fine-tuning on your part, but this approach provides a strong starting point that can significantly enhance your chances of catching the employer’s attention.

It’s always important to note that AI is your co-pilot and can help you get where you are going. Just remember that AI doesn’t have feelings, and most outputs need some humanizing. As most insurance employers will tell you, it is hard to make insurance careers sexy, but AI certainly can make you stand out.
